I have a website designed for me on WordPress 1.5.1.3 and am trying to add a logo to my hompage under the sidebar.

I’ve located the file “sidebarfeatures.php” under “Presentation” and “Theme Editor” but do not have the option to edit it.

At the bottom of the file it says: “If this file was writable you could edit it.”

I clicked on “manage” and “files” and tried putting the file name into the box that said “To edit a file, type its name here” but again wasn’t given the option to edit it.

    Any ideas?

  • All files you wish to edit in your theme folder must be CHMOD 666 if you want to do it from admin panel.
Much safer to download – change – reupload, though.

If done in theme editor, be sure and CHMOD back to 644 for security.

    Thanks for replying, samboll

How do I download the file and reupload it?

Sorry if that’s a really basic question but as the site was designed for me I’ve no experience of changing code.

andy_m, you need to be able to log in by FTP to the server that hosts your WordPress installation. Then you copy the files to your own computer for editing there.

Best if you’re able to speak to your site designer.

    Many thanks for your advice

After much fumbling around I figured out how to log in by FTP and have successfully altered the template.
