On the Settings page, I chose “FTP” under the “Choose your remote storage” section. Then I filled in my FTP Server, FTP Login, FTP Password and Remote Path. Then I clicked on “Test FTP Settings” and nothing happened. Then I clicked on “Backup Now” at the top and nothing happened.

How do I back up my site? Where are the instructions?

    Hi Meredith,

When you say nothing, do you mean absolutely nothing? e.g. When you click on “Backup Now”, does nothing slide down at the top to tell you that a backup has been scheduled?

Correct, nothing at all. No indication that I have even clicked a button.

You probably have another plugin which is breaking buttons in the dashboard – see here: https://updraftplus.com/do-you-have-a-javascript-or-jquery-error/

A quick way to assess whether you’ve got that problem is to open up your browser’s JavaScript console and see if any errors are showing. Depending on your web browser, this is often done with Control-Shift-J or F12. Once you open it, clear the console, then reload the UpdraftPlus page, and see if anything appeared in the console.

Alternatively, if you were willing to email your WP login credentials to [email protected] then I’d be glad to take a look – UpdraftPlus is meant to have some code to detect when other plugins cause this kind of breakage, and show you a warning. Obviously it didn’t fire in this case, and I’d love to look at why.

I just deactivated all of my plugins and it didn’t make a difference.

I opened the JavaScript Console and saw this error, but only after clicking “Backup Now”:
Uncaught TypeError: Object [object Object] has no method ‘dialog’ options-general.php?page=updraftplus:225
    onclick options-general.php?page=updraftplus:225

    Hi,

Did you also change the theme back to one of the defaults? (e.g. TwentyTwelve).

And, what is your web browser + operating system.

I just tried activating TwentyTwelve and that didn’t work either.

I’m using Chrome on a Mac, but I also tried Firefox.

    I just emailed you!

    OK, so it’s not browser-specific; that’s helpful.

I can’t think of anything else to suggest – because that situation (no other plugins + default theme) shouldn’t be having this problem. (I can’t reproduce it; if it was normal, then we’d get lots of reports, since UD is downloaded about 1,000 times a day). Would you be willing to email me your login details so that I can take a closer look? ([email protected]). Failing that, I can’t think of anything else to suggest.

I just looked in my cgi-bin directory, but I do not have the .php directory or php.coalesced.ini file that were referenced by user NoTearsWeb. Inside of my cgi-bin directory, all I see is this:

    fileman.cgi
    global.dat
    php.dat
    php.dat.sav

    Hi Meredith,

Have you made sure that your FTP program is showing hidden files? They usually don’t show files beginning with a period unless you tell them to.

I actually can’t even see the cgi-bin directory from my FTP program (Fetch). I can see my .htaccess file though. I’m using Network Solution’s online FileManager to access the cgi-bin directory. I’m not sure how to find the .php directory if it’s hidden??

    Hi Meredith,

I’ve not used Network Solutions myself so don’t have much useful to say there. If you want to try a support package – https://updraftplus.com/shop/get-support/ – and send me your login details then I can take a look, and refund you if it can’t be done. Or you could ask Network Solutions for support. I’m out of ideas though. It is definitely a problem on their end; I was able to confirm that when I logged into WP earlier. The server just stops half-way through the page and throws out a random error, never quite at the same point.

Nevermind, I just had to search for it. The plugin appears to be working now! ??
