  • Is this a plugin? We need more details before we can help.

At first I thought it was a plugin but after an hour of research found it is an unsolicited program from Attracta via HostGator SEO program. I’ve talked to the Attracta and hope to have the problem resolved. It’s horrible that I didn’t know it was automatically introduced to my site without my approval when I activated the SEO program. Thanks for your prompt response.

Is this being automatically added to all Hostgator sites via their SEO program? I’d be curious to hear what Hostgator have to say about this. Also, how was it affecting your site?

I added sitelock thru my host. It is not a plugin but code you (or at least I) added to a text widget.

Understood but if Hostgator are adding it automatically as part of their SEO program, it could create confusion – if not actual problems – for some site owners.

Darn, I need more coffee. The code I added was just for the banner.
You can login and change your account normally here.

Sitelock charges apparently and I don’t remember signing up for that! My host is dot5 so I need to check it out.

Yes, all host gator sites are affected. I spent a great deal of time on the forum and many people are unhappy about the problem and the lock is creating a number of issues. HostGator is aware but I’m not sure what their stand on the issue.

I am paying web developer to design my site and she was unable to make changes due to the sitelock. Even as admin she could not change the theme. I’m going to see if she has better luck now that the lock is off my site.

I’ve pasted the delete instructions given to me by Attracta below. However, if you don’t know to contact them directly you’d be stuck. Feel free to share the info with whom ever.

Thanks again for your prompt attention!

    Rebecka,

If you need the SiteLock app disabled immediately, you will need to delete the .fastinclude file from the ‘web root’ (document root) of your website.

    To delete this file:

    1. Log into your cPanel account
    2. Navigate to ‘File Manager’
    3. Choose the ‘Web Root (public_html/www)’ option and ensure ‘Show Hidden Files (dotfiles)’ is ticked.
    4. Click Go
    5. Select the public_html folder on the left
    6. Select the file named ‘.fastinclude’ and click Delete

After deleting this file, the app will be removed instantly. Please let me know if you have any questions about the above and I would be happy to assist you.

I wanted to add that I don’t think the program is necessarily bad I just don’t like that I didn’t know about it before it was added to my site

Understood but the info you posted above will help other WordPress users in a similar situation. So thanks for that. ??
