In converting from 2.5 to 3.0.4 with 1and1.com, I’m having to export the old 4.0 database to a new MySQL version 5.0. Unfortunately, I have more than just WordPress files in the old database, making the export/import file too large for 1and1.com to process.

Is there some way to select just those WordPress files I need to export to the new 5.0 database, and if so, how?

    Thanks in advance.

They should be the tables starting with wp_ as a prefix. You SHOULD be able to just export those.

Well, I would think so, too.

    I’ll check with 1and1.com

    Thanks.

If you have phpMyAdmin, you can pick and chose the tables to export.

Crack open your wp-config.php file and see what your WordPress prefix is.

I have done so, and cannot get the new database to “take” on importing the old database. I’ve been trying this for almost 24 hours now–with many phone calls to 1and1.com.

    Any thoughts?

All of my old tables start with wp_

Even the guy at 1and1.com didn’t know how to export JUST those tables. Do you know how?

In phpmyadmin click on export on left hand side you will see the table highlighted click your mouse in box and you will just one highlighted now select the ones you want export by left click and drag.

File name template enter file name and click Go
