• Ok, let my try to explain this without sounding like an idiot. I am moving my site from one server to another. I have totally redesigned the site and it is now up and running. All I want from the old server are the posts on the old site, Can I move just those over or are they lost forever?

  • Your posts and other data are in the database if your old site is a WordPress site. In the tools section of your dashboard there are import/export tools which you can use to get the data. There are other ways to do it but basically, you are looking for importing your database.

Ok. So is it possible to import the old database into the new database?

If you have site setup already, what you want to do is export content from old wp site and import into new one. If you wanted to clone a whole site (including theme, plugins, settings, posts, etc.) then you would export the whole db.

Review import and export in search above.

do I have to change the name of the old database to make it match the name of the new database?
