How do I get a workable contact list from Google Contacts or Google People API?

  • Dear Forum Members,

    My need is to have a read-only list or access to all contacts listed within my specially designated Google Account, accessible via a simple url such as mywordpresssite.ca/directory.

    I’m already using a plug-in on my WordPress site that does this for Calendar information from the Google account, but I can’t find anything as simple or ready-made for Contacts or for a Google People API (what they recommend using if you only want read-only access to Google Contacts)

    I have reviewed the information at https://developers.google.com/people/. What I have so far is the project set-up in the Google Developers Console, enabled the People API, have a API key and OAuth2 credentials.

    I’ve (blindly) attempted to past the PHP script in my theme’s extras.php and that didn’t work. So… I don’t know where to go from here.

    What I’m hoping is to grant my staff read-only access, essentially, to my designated Google Account’s contacts.google.com information so that they can search the list and (if possible) use the group
    Can someone please guide me on this?

    Nope. No response and I didn’t find anything outside the forum either. I halted this project and am using a shared spreadsheet for now but it’s not ideal.

    If anyone knows how to embed/include a Google People API into WordPress to provide a researchable directory of people; I’m all ears.

    Its crazy that no one even answers this! I understand it might be something like a security issue with spamming and such, but in our case it is for an intranet. I will have it paused for a while until I find a solution. I’ll let you know if we figure it out.
