how do I get nested topics?

    there are nested (threaded) replies, but not nested topics.

    dashboard>settings>forums>Reply threading

    Are there any addons that I can use or php functions to make this happen?

    not quite sure what you are after, perhaps if you described what you were wanting to achieve

    Typically forums have

    topics which have replies and if you want threaded replies

    Sub forums, which have topics which have replies and if you want threaded replies

    maybe you want to create sub forums?

    Yes sorry, sub forums is what I am after.

    ok, so you can create a forum and make it a sub forum of any other forum.

    Thanks that seems to work. What’s the difference between a Forum and a Category when you do this?

    A category is a forum with no topics of it’s own – in effect having a title for a group of subforums.

    So you might have a category of elephants, with sub forums of say General chat, African elephant and Indian elephants.

    Or a forum of elephants, with sub forums of African elephant and Indian elephants, and let the ‘general stuff’ go against the parent forum.
