• I purchased and mapped my domain (kayris-e.com) to wordpress.com. Then I purchased a theme from themeforest.com and downloaded it. I am having a hard time understanding the installation directions. I have two options:

FTP Upload: Using your FTP program, upload the non-zipped theme folder into the /wp-content/themes/ folder on your server.

    OR

WordPress Upload: Navigate to Appearance > Add New Themes > Upload. theme will be uploaded and installed.

I have NO idea what an FTP upload is and I cannot do the wordpress upload because when I navigate to appearance there is no ‘add new themes’ options.

*****I was told that wordpress.com and www.ads-software.com are 2 totally different things. Can someone explain this?

I also purchased hosting at bluehost.com because I read that I need to do that in order to build my wordpress download. When I download wordpress from https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress it gives me a bunch of files that I don’t understand. I’ve also tried downloading from www.ads-software.com and it gave me those same files.

What was the point of me purchasing blue host? Did I just waste my money or do I actually need it to properly install a purchased theme?

    PLEASE HELP.

There’s a lot going on here, read this through and I’ll try and explain.

You’re mixing up WordPress.ORG (this place) and WordPress.COM (the place you mapped your domain to).

Give this a read for that explanation. The .ORG and .COM are two different things alright.

www.ads-software.com doesn’t have anything to do with your existing blog. For any support questions you’ll need to head over to the WordPress.COM support forum.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/

They will tell you though that WordPress.COM does not support installing your own theme that you purchased.

    I also purchased hosting at

    Head over to this link:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Getting_Started_with_WordPress

The top section is for beginners, read through those especially this one.

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress

That’s a lot to digest I know. But before you try and get into self-hosted WordPress, you should familiarize yourself with the getting started basics first.

WordPress.com is the service where you’re used to logging in and using your blog until now. You can’t use your purchased theme there.

www.ads-software.com is a) the site you’re currently posting at and b) the place to get the software that runs on WordPress.com and millions of other sites, and the various goodies related to it.

In order to use your purchased theme and your Bluehost hosting, you will have to map your domain to Bluehost instead of WordPress.com. The instructions for that will depend a bit on where you bought the domain from, but whoever it was, they’re the ones who can help you out. This is a very common request that every domain registrar has instructions for, I promise!

You’ll ALSO have to install the software on your Bluehost hosting account. Don’t worry too much about the installation instructions — Bluehost has a one-click installation tool that you’ll see as soon as you log in to the account you set up there. Bluehost support may also be able to help you with this step if you run into trouble.

Once that’s done, log in to your new WordPress site and you’ll see the Appearance > Themes > Upload area. If you’ve already started posting on your WordPress.com account, you will also want to Export your content, and then do the corresponding Import at the new site (assuming you want to keep what you’ve already posted, of course).

EDIT: You’re too quick for me, Jan!

    HI,

I come across the similar problem, which I have upgraded the theme from free to premium, and have it successfully downloaded on my mac and uploaded to my host. However, I don’t see any different between free and premium version, as shown on the seller website:

    The theme’s name is memento:
    https://demo.yithemes.com/memento/portfolio/3-columns/
All features described on the seller website as: be able to change background colour, having several types portfolio etc aren’t displayed on my website. could anyone tell me where the problems are and the solutions for them. Thanks
Yet, the wordpress version I am using currently is 3.5.

    my website is https://www.wingsundrugfty.com/wordpress

please contact the seller for support.
