    Hi

I am a front end developer looking to move to back end.

I am a complete beginner to wordpress. I cant understand the official documentation because there’s so much jargon in it.

I am using Linux Ubuntu 17.04 and XAMPP. I decided to try out wordpress but cant seem to connect to my localhost via File Zilla. Every time i get connection failed error.

Can anyone walk me through it in plain english?

Am I too early in starting wordpress? Do i need to learn back end before I dive into wordpress?

  • Have you established connection with database by using SQL?

If you are installing WordPress then you need to create SQL DB connection @localhost.

cant seem to connect to my localhost via File Zilla

Why do you need ftp to connect to a local server? Can’t you simply navigate to the relevant folders?

    Thanks, Avinash Mishra

Clean install after creating a database.

Where I can download WordPress from for Windows OS to run in XAMPP. I downloaded it once but it’s archive is password protected.

    Thank you in advance.

You should download the WordPress from here https://www.ads-software.com/download. Please read the requirements before you get started. There is not different archive for different server OS. And note that the archive works on XAMPP but you have to meet the the server requirements.

If you use Ubuntu, dont use XAMPP, because server always shutdown when your website has big traffic, you could try VPSSIM: Nginx, PHP, MariaDB.

Very Easy to manage sever with VPSSIM.
