• Making a new WP install for personal use (organizing a research project) and I’ll be using a plugin like SUBSCRIBERS ONLY or REGISTERED ONLY to protect the blog. I’d like to make sure none of my posts “leak out” through the RSS feeds.

I haven’t found a straight answer, but reading the docs and forums on customizing feeds I’m guessing that simply deleting certain php files will kill the feeds…? Is this true?

    The files are:

    wp-rss2.php
    wp-rss.php
    wp-rdf.php
    wp-atom.php
    wp-commentsrss2.php

Are there any more I should know?

If I delete the files will I damage WordPress?

If for some reason I want to later restore the feeds, can I simply reload the php files?

Is there a better method for silencing the feeds?

    Thanks for advice.

  • I don’t know the exact answer to your question – but instead of just *deleting* them, you could rename them to see if it has any effect on your WordPress installation. I’m guessing they won’t, but just to be sure, start by renaming the feeds. If there’s no effect, then you could delete them from your server (but keep a copy on your hard drive, just in case).
