• Hello, All,

I’m working with members of a team to redesign the landing page of a site. The designers want privacy so that what they are developing is not viewable by the client and their colleagues. We want an situation where we can present the new, finished designs in person to the owner.

However, the way it looks now, there is no way to have a private and/or password protected page that is truly private. The admin/owner can access everything, which means the rest of their team can peak in and even share the link to others. This is the last thing we need, a committee nit-picking away out of context to what the designers are doing.

That said, I can’t see any way to do that except to change the site password and keep it all under wraps until we are ready to present, and I don’t know how they’ll feel about that idea.

Coming from Squarespace, we are used to being able to create a test site, where we can build in private for two weeks, and usually get extensions, but cannot see any way to do that in WP. It appears that the site we are helping to redesign does not have another space unconnected to itself, if that makes sense.

What do you recommend? We are new to WP.

    Thank you,

    Mark

Some hosts offer staging/test sites, some don’t. Aren’t committees fun? Anyhow, you could create your own staging site on your own server, locally (using something like Local By Flywheel), or in another directory tree on your current host.

    Hello, Steven,

Thank you very much. This is all really new to me, so pardon what could be dumb questions.

Our client is hosted on GoDaddy. I could call them to find out whether they offer staging/test sites or not. Do you know off the top of your head if they do that as a regular part of their hosting service?

When you say “on your own server”, and “in another directory tree on your current host”, what do you mean exactly?

Thanks again. It all sounds promising to my uninitiated ears.

IIRC, GoDaddy puts sites in public_html. You may be able to put another site in soemthing like “new_site”. I don’t use GD for hosting, so you’d have to ask them.

Your own server means a server you manage and control.

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you. I’ll investigate GD.
