I just launched my first WP plugin not long ago and everything seems to be working great. Today I pushed an update, and the WordPress directory has updated to show the new version, but when I open up a WP admin panel where my plugin is installed I’m not getting a notice about the plugin having an update. How do I trigger that?

Also, where do I set all the info that people would see under that update notification? I typically see bullet points of what’s changed under the update notification in the admin panel so I’d like to include this with my updates, too.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    How do I trigger that?

You don’t. WordPress will check automatically at least once in every 24 hours.

Ok, so I guess it’s not nearly as quick as the directory itself? I guess I was thinking as soon as the directory updated the updates would be available for people, but I guess that’s incorrect..??

What about the details that show up under the update notification in the WP admin panel? Where do I control what shows up there?

Oh – they will be but it will take 24 hours for the update notice to show in every user’s site.

    I;m sorry… I don’t follow you.

So, for example, WooCommerce just released an update and they have all this pretty, styled detail about the update under the notification.

I can only suggest that you download that plugin and have a look at how they managed to show this notice.

I’ve been studying it and I can’t find it. I used their plugin and SVN repo as a guide for doing my own, and everything worked great. I simply don’t see anything to mimic in order to replicate that, though.

My update did kick in and I was able to update through the admin panel, which was very nice, but I’d really like to be able to display a message there and make it pretty like WooCommerce does.

Mine didn’t have any notes at all other than the fact that the update was available, and then it did have a link to view the details of the update, but nothing right there like their’s.
