    Hi,

Please can someone help me remove a line of code.

‘–>’ has appeared on my site above thumbnail number 3 on the ‘work’ page of my site, https://www.susierichards.com. I can see in my source it is line 222 but I have no idea where the code is to delete it. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Susie

I found it! It was in nextgen-gallery/view/gallery-caption.php.

I copied and pasted a number of the .css and .php files into a text editor and did a CTRL Find on ‘–>’ and hey presto I found a random entry!

Thank you so much Krishna for helping me with this. Your time is much appreaciated. ??

The validation report seems to have thrown up loads of errors. I believe the majority of theme to do with how the parent theme was written. Am I ok to just leave these or should I go in and write over what the author has written. My site so far seems to be working ok????

First of all, congrats, because you found it. I have found that many people do not have the patience to do such work. So, I appreciate you.

Most of the validation errors are from the original theme, I think. Anyway, it is not a nice idea to change the theme’s original files, as they will be lost when they update the theme.

I have checked many sites, and most of them have some problem or the other. Though, it is advisable to have a clean validation, it is nothing to worry much about unless there are too many errors and WARNINGS.

I think your site is OK. I will recheck one or two aspects. Come back after a few minutes. If your problem is solved, mark the post as resolved after a few minutes.

    Thanks Krishna!

Your site is quite OK now. Earlier it had some security warnings too. That is why I asked you to update a few things. I did not write here because I did not want to scare you.

You are welcome with your questions.

You may mark the topic as resolved!

I am intrigued! Please tell me what the warning were? I have started getting some spam??

Also, will I get the security warnings again but be unaware of them because I won’t be able to do the checks you do?

Nothing to worry now. You may now put it up, if you like for a site review at the appropriate place in the forum.

As I said, there were warnings because your site had outdated software, and some indications of malware. But the reports were conflicting. No fun in repeating them here. You are quite secure now, though there are many ways to tighten security.

Yes. You have to check your site for such warnings. Most importantly, keep your software updated.

Thanks Krishna. I have a few things to finish off and then will put it up for review. I hadn’t realised that you could/should put it up for review! Is this simply so it can be tested in different environments?

Any advice on tightening security would be welcome.
