• I have a great image that I am using as my header. However, I also want to have a site title and tagline so that search engines can find my site. How do I hide my site title and tagline from visitors to my site and not search engines. I have tried looking around on the internet but have found nothing that helps with this theme in particular. Any help is much appreciated.

    My website is themitchellorganization.com

    Thank you!

I should clarify. Whenever, I put in a site title or titletag, it goes on top of my banner. I don’t want this to happen. I want to only see the header image and not the site title and title tag.

There is not a perfect answer to that question — lots of people want to do the same thing and it’s quite doable using “display: none;” in the CSS code. You could also put the image on top of the text using z-index, but there’s no real advantage to doing that as it’s still considered “cloaking.” Google’s guidelines specifically say that “hiding” text or anything else is not good, but most people’s experience indicates that this kind of hiding does not have a major effect (if any) on SEO. SEO takes into account many variables and this is just one — and in this case, it’s probably not a big deal. If you focus on good content and user experience, that’s what really affects SEO. Do some research and reading on SEO — starting with Google webmaster tools — and decide for yourself on this.
