How do I remove the "General" category?

  • I’ve seen this discussed, but I can’t follow what has been said, so I’m looking for a fresh opinion.

    I need to delete the “General” category. It has no use, but when I show the archive of posts it shows up as General (0). I need it gone.

    Can someone please give me simple instruction on how to over ride this function?

  • Admin Dashboard>Posts>Categories>Search for ‘General’>Mouse Hover over the Category name ‘General’>Click ‘delete’.

    That said, do you have a menu item ‘General’? Are you using a Custom Menu or is this Category in a sidebar widget, etc? If a custom menu, you will need to simply remove the menu item.
