How do I remove tinyMCE Clear Formatting button div tags?

I have setup the tinyMCE toolbar for custom buttons. The custom button code for Clear Formatting is ‘removeformat’ – when I click the button in the editor it removes all the code and leaves a <div></div> tag around the content. I don’t want anything left when I use Clear Formatting because the idea is to then add a format from the drop down menu, so if someone clicks the wrong format and they need to clear it they can apply a new one without having it already surrounded in div tags.

When contacting tinyMCE they said this is a WP support issue. FYI I am not using the advanced plugin.
