I just installed WordPress 2.5.1 and I created two link categories, one for sites I like, one for sites I dislike. Then I installed a widget-ready WordPress theme and added the “Blogroll” widget to the sidebar.

The two link categories I created are now placed in the sidebar, but the “sites that I dislike” category appears first, followed by “sites I like”.

How do I change the order so that “sites I like” will appear before the “sites I dislike” category? I could find no obvious way to do that.

Actually, I think that this may help you …

    go to https://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

You should see two category widgets on the right hand side of the CP.

Drag the one that you’d like to be on top, up … or … Drag the one that you’d like to be on the bottom, down.

    Hope this helps.

There’s just one widget called “Links” with the description “Your blogroll”. When I drag it to the sidebar and save the layout, the link categories still can’t be ordered in any way.

No matter how many link categories I create, I just can’t drag them selectively, they’re all contained in the “Links” widget and there’s no way for me to set the order.

Also, if it helps, my WordPress installation is set up at https://zugu.us . I reverted to the default WordPress theme, in order to keep everything as vanilla as possible. The behavior I described is the same for the default theme.

Widgets are easy to use, but they have less flexibility than using coding such as wp_list_bookmarks. Since the link categories are listed by the default alphabetical order, you could rename the link categories, such as change dislike to loathe.

Thank you, iridax. The link you provided has extensive information about bookmark sorting.

However, I find it too extensive. I only wish some easier alternative were implemented into the WordPress administration panel some day.

    Thanks everyone for the help.
