How do I transfer images from wordpress.com to a custom hosted site?

    Hi there

    I am trying to transfer a blog hosted on wordpress.com to a custom hosted blog. I have used the export/import function to take care of the posts and so on, but I see no way to copy all the images that were uploaded and live on the wordpress.com site.

    Is there an easy way to do this transfer?

  • hmm, actually, now that you mention it, those images are actually missing from where they are supposed to be.
    do you know, if I re-upload from my backup will it double everything? or is there a way to access from the backup file just the images?

    Man, you think too much… Just answer the question I asked above.

    Did you look at the source code to see what exactly is in the code? – and I meant where the image is supposed to be.

    Or why don’t you just give us a link, so somebody can see it instead of getting the necessary info bit by bit?

    Did you try turning on the “Import Attachments” checkbox?

    I searched for this term and discovered a description of the feature. Turns out it is a feature of 2.5 which i could not see as the blog in question is 2.3.3.

    So it has been fixed in the current version.

    just found this program… it can download all your images from wordpress.com you can upload them again to your new server and if needed you can do a search-replace on a sql export. and then import it again.

    otto42, I don’t see the checkbox that you mentioned… under Administration -> manage -> import -> wordpress [1]. Could you have a plugin installed that is giving you that checkbox?
