• Very simple question. I would like to be able to upload documents (in various formats) from my computer to the page/post editor. Is this possibe? If so, what kind of plugin or software do I need? Thank you.

  • You can do this be clicking on the little icon above the editor window that looks like a camera. From there you can upload any files that you want.

You can embed images into the page, and other files (like Word docs, ZIP files, PDF’s, etc) can be linked in the page/post by using the ‘Insert link’ (I think that’s what it says without looking…) button in that area.

I tried that. Doesn’t work. It only gives a link to the document, which, if you click on it, takes you to a new window and shows the doc. I want to be able to actually upload the document into the page/post editor itself, and be able to edit it.

    That cannot be done.

That’s like asking Photoshop to edit your Word document. It’s different systems for differnt purposes. The HTML editor can edit the page content only, not any other documents that are attached to it.

If you need to edit stuff like that, you will have to do a cut-and-paste of the content from your files into the HTML editor. No other way around it.

Ah! If only we lived in a perfect world. Thanks a lot, man. I guess I’m stuct copying/pasting. The problem I have with copying/pasting is that some (if not all) of the formatting of the original text is lost. It makes my job harder because then I have to go through the entire text in the page/post editor and reformat it according to how it should be. Any suggestions to how I can copy/paste something PERFECTLY into the page/post editor?
By the way, my website is a literary/art magazine: I receive a lot of submissions from people. Of course, it would be very time consuming to have to reformat (in the page/post editor) every single submission I publish.

That’s going to be hard… very hard.. if not impossible too.

The problem is that your pages and posts are styled by your theme to appear as they should in your site. To be able to format everything “perfectly” the file that you get would have to use the sae HTML markup as your site as well as the same CSS style rules.

Another consideration that will hopefully make your choice eaiser is.. do you really want every post/page/item to look different? Your site will look like it’s pieced together from 100’s or 1,000’s of different sources and that’s a very quick way to look like you’re doing this on the cheap and don’t care about the appearance.

I’m definitely not doing this on the cheap. I care very much about appearance. And I care even more about the art itself. I want the site to have a uniform look. But as to the content of any particular page/post, that is going to vary because of how the piece is formatted. This issue will mostly be a problem for poetry, because poets format their poems in specific ways, and take much offense to editors reformatting their stuff. I know I do. Anyway, thanks for the insight.

Upload button is not working, While uploading the documents in my site. I am using latest WordPress version. It’s very urgent I need to upload sample documents in my site. Advance Thanks…
