• I am attempting to use the WordPress Stats plug in, but have no idea how to upload them. If I download the file, it shows up on my desktop, which is of no use that I can figure out. If I go to the install page, and then click on the file that is on my desktop, it shows up with this message: Unable to create directory /var/hsphere/local/home/apubadmi/alpinepub.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I am feeling very lost and would appreciate any help you may offer.

    Thank you.

    Tammy

  • FTP your the plugin here:
    url blog/wp-content/plugins

    details on managing your plugins:

    Hi Tammy,

You’ll need to use an FTP client program to get things off your desktop onto your server.

Anything you have to get software onto your server is likely fine, but if you don’t have one yet, I suggest Filezilla:

    https://filezilla-project.org/download.php

The place you’ll want to put any plugin on your server is in the plugins folder of wordpress, which is under the “wp-content” folder, which is just inside your main folder where all the top-level wordpress files are. (like config.php)

    Hope that helps!

Ok, I’m feeling a bit dense here, as I don’t have a clue how to access the “wp-content” folder. When I type in the url blog/wp-content/plugins, there are a ton of options. I went to the Managing Plugins site and attempted to watch the video, but it failed to load on my computer so I will try to access it at home. I understand FTP, etc., but I do not know how to access the folder that I need to place it into.

    Thank you!

See the second video at the following link.

    https://educhalk.org/blog/?p=91

Also, if you have WP 2.7 or later, you can install plugins directly from the WP admin.

if I uploaded a video from my desktop via ftp what folder do I put it in (i don’t see a video folder) and then how to I get it onto a specific page. . .?

    Thanks

    @ Gdwall,

You can go about the video a few different ways:

When you create your post or page you can use the ‘upload/insert’ function (right above where you’ll be typing). There’s a ‘video button’ WordPress will organize files automatically this way.

    Or,

You can set up a specific folder via FTP that you can then upload to. Then, once it’s uploaded you’ll have to imbed the post or page yourself with a link. If you do it this way you’ll have to setup a video folder beforehand. Then just remember the file path when you imbed.
