How do I use og:image?

    I’ve installed the OpenGraph plugin, activated it, what do I do now? How do I use it?

    What I am trying to do is include og:image in the Mastodon Autopost plugin which I’ve been told will include the featured image on a post in WordPress’s image format.

    The Autopost message can be configured with these metas: [title], [excerpt], [permalink] and [tags]. I just added [og:image] and merely the text is copied.

    You do not have to do anything! The plugin generates everything automatically. You can check the output here: https://www.opengraph.xyz/url/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fhithich.uk%2F%3Fp%3D30644

    But the plugin adds meta-headers to your HTML, you can not use the items as placeholders for the Autopost plugin.

    I think you have to ask on the Mastodon Autopost plugin forum what placeholder you should use for the image.

    Thanks, Matthias for the prompt replies. It all sounds too complicated for me, I think I’ll put it on the back-burner for now.

    Mastodon Autopost actually told me to use og:image. I thought it would be easy.

    It might be that Mastodon supports Open Graph, but then it will automatically done by mastodon, you do not have to add it to to the list. Open Graph was designed to provide nice previews of simple links. You could try it: activate the plugin and then share an URL to one of your blogposts.

    For the last two posts it seems to have worked — the featured image is included. Before that I had to edit the Mastodon post.

    Not sure what’s happened but all’s well that ends well.
