How do you allow a product to be bought but with a note?

    I would like for a customer to be able to add an item to the cart, but then, if the item isn’t ready-built & set to ship, pop up some text indicating, “Item is not ready to ship, but you can still order, and it will be queued for production”

    For the “isn’t ready to ship” check, can I set up some attribute or something on the Product Detail page, to let the cart function know it’s not available currently?

    So, not so much a classic , “Not in stock” situation, more of a “it’s not in stock, but I can build it” type of thing..

    What say you?

    The easiest way to achieve the result you’re looking for is with the ‘Allow backorders’ option: https://cld.wthms.co/jsh1sq

    If you enable backorders and there’s 0 products in stock, the customer will see a backorder message on product and cart pages:
    https://cld.wthms.co/tQ9wRh

    You could use a translation plugin to customize this message to suit your specific needs.

    If the product is currently in stock, the customers will be able to check out normally.
