• I have buddypress going, and I noticed that, even though, I changed the “nickname” and “display name publicly as” to show a different user name, it still shows the original user name that I used in fantastico to create the wordpress installation.

    Any tips on this?

I tried editing “nicename” and “display name as” fields in the user wp_users table. It doesn’t seem to “stick” when it comes to the admin account.

It’s typically suggested that you setup a new Admin account and then delete the one that gets automatically created. Since it’s auto on all WP sites hackers have 1/2 of the information needed to try and get your login.

If you do that just name the new one as you want to see it. Really though a name change should stick even to an admin account.

I’ve been trying to get rid of or modify the original admin account. I haven’t been able to. I have created a new administrator account, logged in, and tried to get rid of the original. It won’t let me. Says that I can’t delete or change the name on the original account owner.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    A.

@awdur – is your blog hosted on WordPress.COM? If so the original name you created your account under stays. You could create a new account then transfer your blog to the new account.

If you are on WordPress.com they have a help forum at: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/

This forum is for self hosted accounts using www.ads-software.com software.

I thought I was self (well, ISP) hosted, but now that you ask, I’ll go check with ISP.

ISP tech support was [not] real helpful. But I can upload WordPress and run it myself, so I’m going to take what Saildude said as advice and do just that.
    Thanks.
