I am a WordPress newbie. I just started working on a site for a non-profit organization that I volunteer for. I am wondering – how do you create a thumbnail? I have been searching but I can’t find a basic how to. I realize this is probably a very simple thing to do for most of you that are experienced with WordPress, but I just need some assistance if anyone has the time to respond. Thank you very much.

  • Hi,

When you’re uploading an image you can choose various sizes to use and then ‘Insert into Post’ or use as ‘Featured Image’.

Are you looking for code to generate a specific size of thumbnail from an image – timthumb is great for this.

Was this helpful? Let me know ??

Thank you for your response. I would like to create a gallery of thumbnails. I volunteer for a humane society and have pictures of dogs and cats. And yes, your response was very helpful. Not sure how to create a gallery yet, but I figure thumbnails is the place to start – is that correct?

WordPress will automatically create thumbnails for any image that is uploaded and that is larger than the sizes specified in Settings -> Media. I recommend that you upload all of your images whilst editing the page that you want to contain the final gallery. Then, when all images have been uploaded, use the Insert gallery option at the bottom of the Add Media pane.

    Glad we could help ??

    I recommend NextGEN Gallery – it’s great & simple to use/extend ??
