• So it’s my first time using wordpress and i know how to code websites but i thought rather than jumping the gun and hand code first i thought it would be better to use an exisisting template and then merge my code with pre-written.

Well all started out well until things started messing up and i couldn’t locate the specific problem plus the css stylesheet was so poorly written it had dupes with different styles!!!

So my question is how do you guys start a wordpress template, is there something im missing? Do you handcode your website to xhtml/css then start entering in the php.

Do you have a basic, basic template that you use in wordpress before adding your code in?

I was so close to finishing up my template and now i feel i might have to start again and instead code it up normally then import into wordpress.

    Yes, always.

For me, I have a couple of basic templates (tested in all browsers) for several different types of websites. One columns, three columns, fixex, liquid and so on. Because the basics are always the same – for all websites, not only for wordpress themes.
Creating a new basic template took me two minutes, styling is the hard (and exciting) thing.
