How do You Hide or Disable Pingbacks from Comments

Go to your post.. and at the very top-right of the screen is an “Screen Options” tab.

Click that.. and when it slides down.. make sure you have the “Discussion” option selected.

Now, scroll down below your content editor (same page), and look for the “Discussion” metabox.

Inside that box is an option to disable trackbacks and pingbacks.

There’s nothing on the blog that says screen options, be it on a post page or the main page when I’m logged in as admin. It just says “Howdy, ____” and there’s a help tab underneath it.

When you go to edit a post… you don’t have “Screen Options” next to the “Help” tab… right below “Howdy”?

I had it, but I didn’t realize you meant after clicking edit. I thought it would appear on a visible post.

I followed your instructions, but the pingbacks are still there for that post. Also, will I have to go through every post to do this? I have hundreds. Is there a simple plugin that will allow people to know if I’ve linked to them, but disable links from other sites appearing in my comments area?

To disable globally,

Go to Settings -> Discussion… second option from the top.

I suspect that it will not retroactively remove old pingbacks if you uncheck “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)”. Because I unchecked it earlier, and they were still there for old posts. So maybe it just means that it’s only disabled for future posts. That’s good enough for me.

You can delete old pinkbacks quickly and easily by running this SQL query from within your PhpMyAdmin:

DELETE FROM wp_comments WHERE comment_type = 'pingback';
