How do you make the main menu item an active link when it has sub-items?

The Unite menu works very well, however I would like to find out how to make a primary menu item act as a link to a page and not only as an activator to display sub menu items. The way it works now if I create a main menu item like Home with sub-items, if I click on (or hover over) Home it activates sub-items such as About, but you can’t use it to return to the Home page. The current workaround is to add a sub-item under Home called Home which is the link to Home.

This is the default behavior of Bootstrap framework that we have used in our theme. You can confirm it on the following Bootstrap framework nav menu demo page.

If you want to make the top level menu link visited on clicking on it then you have to develop custom code by referring the solution posted in the following reply.
