• I started blogging in March of this year and all my written articles have been stored in my website since there. I just set up a new WordPress theme blog for the first time. However, the “Archives” section starts at June of this year.

Do I have to start over writing from scratch – meaning today – or is there any way where I can move the content from my old website and store it in WordPress so the “Archive” section starts from March 2009, April 2009, May 2009, and June 2009 with the proceeding article pages attached?

  • Assuming that you can copy and paste the text for each of your ‘old’ posts, then when writing each of those posts, in the Publish module, click on the Edit link (next to Publsh immediately) and change the date to be your ‘old’ date, then publish the post.

If the old blog is also in WordPress or another compatible format, you could try an XML export from the old blog and import that in the new one. However, there is a potential problem with categories, if you have any. (I have 2.7.1).
The categories in the new blog get new numbered ID’s in alfabetical order of the (old) category names/slugs. Since in my theme there is a lot of category including by number, I had a problem. In the end, I repaired this by going into PLESK and adjusting the number ID’s. Quite tricky but worked (it was only for my test setup).

Also I could not import the images added to my posts and the links to images don’t change.

    Hi henkholland,

Thank you for your tip, but that sounds a little bit more complicated.
