How Do You Override The Default WP Comment System?

  • I have been trying to find some documentation on how to override this, but all i get are links to plugins. I dont want to use a plugin, i want to write one. I have my own user DB that isnt part of wordpress. I want to create a comment system that will incorporate this user system into it so i dont need to use a 3rd party plugin. What hooks/anything do i need to know to get working on this. Reverse engineering an existing plugin will be a nightmare
