How do you promote your Blog?
-
Hello,
I am familiar with Web sites and message boards, but this is my first Blog. With Web sites, you submit them to the search engines. I have my Blog separate from my Web site on purpose.
My question is how do I promote my new Blog? Since it’s not a part of my Web site, is there a similar method for submitting Blogs to search engines?
Thanks for any help.

There is in fact a similar method for submitting blogs to search engines, the exact same method. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.
Hi mylagoon.

Ahahahahaha. ??
You know, after I left my message yesterday, I thought of that. Just submit the blog to the search engines, but with the blog’s URL. Talk about missing the obvious.
Thanks for the reply confirming this.

I have two more questions. Maybe mylagoon knows.
1) On a Web site you fill in the title and key words for each page before you submit it to the search engines. Before I submit my Blog to the Search Engines, I’d like to know how to add a title and key words to it, to get better search engine placement. Is that feature built into WordPress or do I have to hand code it into the Blog?
2) Besides search engine submission are there “blog sites” where people can submit their blogs for others to see? I’m sure there are, but I haven’t checked yet and I figured those in the know would be able to give me a list of the best sites.
Thanks for any help.

1. I can’t see your blog – it’s not linked to your name. What exactly do you mean by “title”?
You can add keyword manually, or you can search for a plugin that would do that – though SEs don’t rely as much on keywords as they used to (all the SEO people say so). Content! That’s the “king”.
2. If you didn’t modify anything your WP blog should “ping” at least one site that is supposed to ping a lot of other sites about every new post in your blog.
https://pingomatic.com/ pings all the sites listed there.Yeah, I’ve always found that pinging pingomatic and submitting my site to google did the trick. I get pretty god ratings for my posts on a wide range of search enginges now.
It’s a bit like a snowball effect thingo. Once it gets started it kinda takes on a life of it’s own.
Also, on a side note, how is your profile linked website coded DomFontana? It almost crashed FF and my whole computer freezed up!
Moshu,
> I can’t see your blog – it’s not linked to your name. <
Well, that’s what I’m getting at. I just started the blog and have published a number of messages and wanted to know what the next step was to get the blog “out there,” as it were.
> What exactly do you mean by “title”? <
On a web site you give a title to each page and then add key words to each page. I guess with a blog you just need the key words.
> You can add keyword manually, or you can search for a plugin that would do that <
Okay, how dow I add the key words manually?
> If you didn’t modify anything your WP blog should “ping” at least one site <
No, I didn’t modify anything. Also, thanks for the pingomatic site.

I’m not certain I understand your question. Are you asking how my web site is coded? If so, it was done with Yahoo sitebuilder.
It definitely should not have caused a crash with FireFox or any other broswer. It was tested extensively with Internet Explorer, FireFox, Opera, and Netscape and this is the first report of a crash I have received.
If you can give me more information, I would like to fix this.
Thanks for all the help.

mylagoon:
I checked out your blog. Very nicely done. I will be updating mine, but I wanted to add content to it first.
Moshu:
Yours was very nice, too, but when I mouseover the links on the right, everything turns white and the links disappear.

Dom, there are no “get traffic quick” fixes. Follow the info already mentioned, keep adding content, and wait for Google and the other search engines to find your site and spider it. Look into the Google Sitemap plugin, and you may want to look into one of the tagging plugins like Jerome’s keywords or Ultimate Tag Warrior as well. Reading other blogs and leaving pertinent comments is another way of building “juice” in a healthy fashion. There are hundreds of sites and articles out there on the subject, regarding some of your questions, you may want to research meta tags as well. I know there are a couple of WP plugins that will take the tags from Jerome’s keywords or UTW and automagically add them to your header. But there are equally those that will argue that is not as useful as it once was.
But as I stated, there’s no quick fix, especially for long term success. Keep reading, writing, and plugging along is the only real way of assuring yourself traffic.DomFontana,
I think your questions have all almost been answered. I just want to add the there is no difference with blog and website when it comes to search engines. Just see you blog as a website. Though blogs are more interactive and so would stay on the search engines ones it gets there. Make sure you share your idea with others and let them put life into your blog.I had a website like you before blogging. You can visit the chatroom at https://www.livinusnosike.com. You will also see my website, my blog and forum network and then ask specific questions if you still have more.
cheers.
Hi, miklb.
> Dom, there are no “get traffic quick” fixes. <
Haha. I like the way you put that. I guess that’s what I was looking for. Many people have their Blogs as part of their Web sites, but I specifically did not want it as part of my site.
I did add the Meta Tags myself and then submitted the Blog to Yahoo and Google, just as if it were a Web site. I also found a site (the name escapes me) that allowed me to add my Blog to its list of Blogs.
Thanks for all the other suggestions. I will look into them.
Also, I left my earlier messages before reading the Forum Posting Rules in their entirety, so I didn’t know signatures weren’t allowed. Sorry about that.
Hi, Nosike.
Very nice site indeed. Very professional.
I hope I’m allowed to do this, but can you take a look at my blog and tell me if you think I’m on the right track here. I did visit other people’s Blogs, but many of them were teenage girls talking about their daily activities.
My Blog is not about me and it’s not an online diary. Basically I’m ranting and raving on a variety of topics. I haven’t customized the template that much yet because I want to add content first.
If you’d like to take a look and give me your comments, I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
just letting you know that sidebar is at the bottom. The header and footer are not aligned properly. Let me know if you want a screenshot.
Do check out my blog and let me know how it is ??
DomFontana,
I think your blog is great!! It’s the first time in months that I’ve just “sit and read”. Thanks!!Now, give me clue….Why do you want to promote it?
Here is something I came across today that is a straight answer to your question.

Yes, the header/footer problem just happened yesterday. Everything was aligned before that. When the blog went to two pages, then the formatting came out of sync and the links appeared at the bottom. I have to find out how to correct it.
Your site is very nice indeed. I liked it. The only thing is that the light green text on the white background is a little tough to read. Other than that, it’s great.
Also, thanks for the link about blog promotion. I’m checking it out and will use the tips I find there.
Thanks again.
