    Hello,

I am familiar with Web sites and message boards, but this is my first Blog. With Web sites, you submit them to the search engines. I have my Blog separate from my Web site on purpose.

My question is how do I promote my new Blog? Since it’s not a part of my Web site, is there a similar method for submitting Blogs to search engines?

    Thanks for any help.

    GadeTerbob,

Oh, I’m glad you liked it. You’re the first person to read it. Thanks.

    > Now, give me clue….Why do you want to promote it? <

I feel like I’m writing in a vacuum. Nobody knows about the Blog and nobody is visiting it and writing comments. So I feel as if I have no “audience,” as it were.

I heard there was something called a link exchange program. It’s where you put links to other people’s blogs on your blog and they reciprocate. Do you know anything about this?

It may be in the info that srikat sent me, but I haven’t gone through all of it yet, so I’m not sure.

    Thanks for any help.

Please don’t think I’m being hyper critical, but my soul was burning to comment on your hamburger article. How right you are!! But…

There is no registration link…that I could find. And you have your blog set to require commenters to be logged in. See the problem?

Perhaps using your blog url in your profile on this (and other) forums will help publicize it.

    I like your blog – it’s nice.
    However:

Some of these will screw up your main container/sidebar.

    Gade,

    > There is no registration link…that I could find. And you have your blog set to require commenters to be logged in. See the problem? <

That’s pretty stupid of me, huh? You’re absolutely right. I’ve been so involved with adding content that I have neglected some basic things. I’m always logged in as the Admin, so I figured that’s why there was no registration option for me. But apparently, no one can register and you can’t leave comments unless you register.

Well, thanks for telling me. I’ll set it up now that you don’t have to register to post comments.

What’s the norm, if there is one? On most blogs, do you usually have to register to post comments? Also, I figured if you set registration required in the WP options that the registration info would automatically appear. Since it doesn’t, who would one implement blog registration? Is it an add-in program?

I’ll add the blog url to my profile. It seems you just promote a blog the way you promote a web site. For some reason, I didn’t think of it that way at first.

Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.

    samboll,

Thank you; thank you; thank you. I bookmarked that site, so I can check the code myself next time.

I’ll go through everything, but I’m pretty sure now that using the <center> tags in all my post titles is what is causing the problem.

    Thanks again.

Unless you have a special reason to do it I don’t think you need to require registering just for comments. (To be honest, I never comment on blogs that require registration…)

To display a link to registration, use https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Template_Tags/wp_register

Thanks so much, moshu. I will take out the registration requirement. And thanks for the other info, too. You’ve been very helpful.

    srikat,

    Thanks for the link.

I still have the problem with the template. I took out the center tags in all my titles, but the template is still out of alignment.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

    Thanks.

Man… first of all, that’s an awfully long page to enter a website. Your visitors will run away ??
Secondly, even if you make that burger picture the size of a stamp, it is still 3600 KB!!!!!!!!!!!
It should be 10-15KB. No wonder it takes ages for your page to appear in the browser.

    moshu,

Okay, I didn’t think of it until now. I believe there was an option to select how many posts you want to appear on each page. I will change that now to make each page shorter.

You think the JPGs are slowing things up that badly?

But why do you think the page is out of alignment? Maybe it’s because the page is so long? Well, I’ll know in a few minutes after I shorten the pages.

    Thanks.

P.S. The Yankees just won 14-13. Unbelievable game.

    1. While it is that long I never look at the code. Sorry.
    2. Such a huge image would slow down even a Formula-1 car ??
    3. What game? Who are the Yankees?

Okay, there seems to be something intrinsically wrong. I just changed the Reading Options to show at most 1 post per page. Yet, it still shows the default 10 posts per page.

Is there a trick to making the options work?

I’ll take out some of the pictures. It’s better if the pages load quickly.

Oh, the Yankees were losing 9-0 and 10-1 and came back to take the lead, then fell behind 13-12 in the top of the 9th. But in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, Posada hit a game-winning 2-run homer and they won 14-13.

I don’t know if you follow baseball, but there are very few games like this. ??

Here’s the latest update. I was having the template problems with the default template. (I just changed the header.) I also downloaded and tried some other templates and had the same problem.

Now, I just tried the Classic template and it seems all the problems are solved. I wonder why the default template was giving me so many problems.

If you show me at least one European man who can follow and understand baseball… I’ll eat my hat ??

    This image https://fontanafirm.com/fontanablog/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/hamburger4.bmp
is still 3600 KB. Resizing the physical dimensions (pixel or inch or cm) will NOT change the file size (kilobytes)! You have to re-szie those pics manually in an image editor BEFORE uploading. (.bmp images especailly tend to be huuuuuge…)
