Do you want to send an email or a notification message?

On the Dashboard there is an Email Users item from which you can send an email message to one or more users and/or groups.

If you want to notify users of a new post or page, you can do it from the post itself (there will be a Notify Users about this post button in the upper right of the post editing page) or there is a specific “Notify” menu on the Posts and Pages menu items where you can select the post or page to use for notification from a drop down list.

Did you edit the message template on the settings page? If so, that text will be used for all post/page notifications which may not be what you want.

We want to send an email message. Yes we have changed that message, can we not send that as our email message?

Nope. That text is the template for sending notifications emails – basically the notification content which precedes a post or page notification. If you want to send an email, use the Dashboard > Email Users > Send to User(s) or Dashboard > Email Users > Send to Group(s) functions depending on your need.

You will have an editing compose page similar to what you have to you have when you create a regular post. In fact, it uses the exact same TinyMCE editor.

Okay I see that thanks. So the other message is to send out when we have a particular post we want them to see?

Correct. It is a template and there are a few keyword substitutions which are document on the Email Users settings page (Dashboard > Settings > Email Users) that can be used in the template. They will be replaced as appropriate when a notification message is sent.

Does the plugin keep track of the emails that we send to users?

    (@mpwalsh8)

No it does not. There is no logging nor archive of previously sent emails.

Okay thank you. Say we want to notify our users of a page or post we just simply click on the notify link at the top of the page or post? Can we change the message to fit the page we are sharing?

The notification message will use the template on the Settings page as the default text for the notification email BUT you can change it prior to sending the notification. The default text is preloaded into the message editing window, you can tweak from there.

My suggestion would be to try it with a test user so you can see what it all does.

So the all the information regarding the post info at the bottom of the message will input the post we want to share automatically?

Yes. Have you tried sending yourself a notification so you can see what it does?

Not yet, I wanted to try yesterday but wasn’t too sure how I worked so I just wanted to be sure.

    Marking resolved.
