how does Donations work?

    on the configure -> payment info page, the last item in the top section says “will you accept donations?”. I would assume this means that they would add a “Would you like to add an optional donation” box on the registration page, so that attendees can buy a ticket and add on a donation in any amount.

    I can’t figure out what this is or how it works… Anyone know?

    That is incorrect. Donations options are enabled for free events where you would like to encourage donations but not required.
