I recently took over this site from the original developer, and this plugin was installed. I’ve never used it before.

My client asked me if the plugin resizes images, and I see that it has that option, but it wasn’t checked off. She had uploaded some large images, so I checked off Resize the original image, but it doesn’t seem to have done anything. I even tried uploading a new one to the Media Library, but it didn’t resize it.

    Am I missing something?

    Hi there!

If you go to Settings > Compress JPEG & PNG images, you will be able to check your settings. In order for an image to be compressed you need to have a valid API key, which you can see under “Tinify account”. If you have a valid key there will be a green tick, otherwise you need to log in to your account on tinypng.com and retrieve your API key from there.

If you check under “New image uploads”, you can see if it might be set to “Do not compress new images automatically”. If that is the case, you will have to change it to one of the other two options.

Under “Image sizes” you will be able to check what sizes to be compressed. You will have to have at least one of them ticked for images to be compressed.

If you go to Media > Bulk optimisation, you will be able to optimise all images in your library.

If you go to Media > Library and select the list view you will be able to see which images have been compressed and by how much.

I hope this has helped you! If not, let us know and we will help you further.

You really haven’t answered my question. Compression is working fine – I was asking about Resizing.

    Hi again,

In the settings where you choose to resize the image, you will also be able to specify the size. Choose a size smaller than the actual image. When resizing this will also cost an extra compression count. This will resize the original image being uploaded, but WordPress will also create the other sizes of that image (for example thumnail, etc.). If you go to media library and click on edit on an image, you can see the new file size under dimensions.

Let me know if this is not working for you!

No, it’s not. I have it set to resize to 1200 x 1200, uploaded a larger photo, and when I click Edit it shows me the original dimensions 3972 x 2978. Hence the reason for this post.

    Hi again,

This seems very strange. How many compressions are being used when you compress the image with these settings? Could you perhaps send us an email at [email protected] with a screenshot of your settings page?

    On its way.
