WordPress 5.0 is coming out today and with it the Gutenberg editor. I was wondering if this plugin has been tested with Gutenberg and if everything works properly on a WordPress 5.0 site?

    Hi Michael,

We’ve tested the plugin and add-on modules with Gutenberg and the lastest release candidate as of yesterday and are not seeing any issues from our test sites.

Of course an update like 5.0 and Gutenberg is complex and may have unanticipated effects on sites, so I think the going consensus is you can update right away if you need to, but otherwise it may be best to wait a few weeks to a minor release comes out with some bug fixes, etc.

But to your question, everything we’ve tested with Gutenberg and the latest 5.0 RC is good to go for SSP.

If you (or anyone else) sees issues come up as they’re upgrading to 5.0 please let us know.

Thanks for the quick reply Craig. Good to know you guys are on top of things. The site in question I have a copy of running locally on my machine, so I will update that to 5.0 and have a look to see if there any issues. If I find anything I will make another post.

I’m seriously not liking the Gutenburg interface with SSP AT ALL. I type in tags and then they disappear. Re-enter them and they still disappear and don’t apply, no matter what I do. Series select on the right side of the screen is super slow. I can type in all my info for the episode, click to select series, and wait…wait…wait…for a while for it to show up. Sometimes it doesn’t at all. Since the upgrade to Gutenburg, WordPress stopped identifying the length of the episodes altogether. It’s just a clunky mess now, problems exist now that didn’t happen at all before the Gutenburg “upgrade”. I wish I could go back.

The whole reason I’m even on the forum right now is that I got several complaints from listeners that my podcast shows up on their iTunes and Google Play feeds, but will not download, but only stream. They can go to the main website and download it, but this is not ideal. My search for an answer continues.

    Hi @weirdwolf

Sorry to hear about the troubles that you’ve run into.

Are the responsiveness issues with things like tags, series selections, etc. happening on your site with other types of posts or content that you’re creating or is it just specific to Podcast posts?

Regarding the podcast not showing up in iTunes, etc. could you send us your RSS feed so we can take a look at it to make sure nothing technically has changed with it?

No, the lag only is an issue with SSP.

We’re continuing to run tests on our staging sites that are running 5.0 and haven’t seen this slow response behavior with tags or series. Would you be able to tell us any more about your WP site, the plugins you’re running, PHP version, etc.?

Also if you haven’t already it might be worthwhile to run a theme/plugin conflict test.

For the media file duration are you hosting these files on your WP server or elsewhere like S3, etc.?

My website is mainly a conduit for dispersing my podcast in both video and audio forms, as well as image galleries for collectors.

Not sure how to run a theme/plugin conflict test. I’ll look into that.

I also host my audio files directly on the server itself. Almost all other media comes from off-server such as Facebook and YouTube.
