How does two-column themes work? Can you post in both?

  • I’ve had a single column blog for some years now. And I’m quite happy with WordPress.

    Now, I’ve bought a new domain, and I’m considering making it into a new blog. This time, I want two collumns.

    The reason is, I want to be able to post in both. I don’t want callendars, statistics, links or anything in the second column. This column will be purely dedicated to picture-related posts, and possibly have a shoutbox on the top or bottom.

    Is this possible to do with two-column theme? Lets say I chose to “Write new post”. Can I choose which column it will be published in?
