I am running a Multisite network. The plugin claims to work with multisite.

So I “Network Activated” the plugin on 1 of my networks that has a Contact Form 7 contact us page running with the Postman SMTP plugin.

I see no menu item or settings for Zero Spam on my site.

So I proceeded to test my CF7 form by completing it with my name, my email address, the subject “Great Site”, and the body message “Get viagra”.

The message went through, no problems…

So exactly how does this plugin work and what exactly does it do?

  • Zero Spam settings are under the Settings menu for the Network Admin in Multisite.

Thanks at @AndyFragen for answering part 1 of the post.

Zero Spam seeks to stop spam bots. Please read the following as it was the inspiration for this plugin. https://davidwalsh.name/wordpress-comment-spam

As such, a real user leaving a spammy comment will go through but a bit trying to leave a spammy comment will not. Make sense?

Is there any feature in your plugin to tag certain words and stop them as spam? Example, I get people filling out the forms to offer their SEO services. How do we cut that off?

That’s not how this plugin works, at least I don’t think that’s how it t works. You may need to use Aksimet in addition to Zero Spam.

If there ever becomes a feature to add a ban by IP then you might be able to do it.

I run Akismet and there is no feature to add your own words or phrases (like viagra, SEO, etc.) to block spam.

Thanks for your suggestion about IP banning, but it is word banning that is the needed and valuable feature.

Excellent @AndyFragen. I’ll give it a shot. Might help me from having to go off and create one on my own at the moment.
