How insert Excel with formulas

This is the approach I was using and it worked–up to a point.
I copied the embed code–with the revisions–into my post, saved it as a draft and went to “Preview.” In Preview, everything worked perfectly the first time. However, the next day when I re-visited the draft-post, nothing worked. An empty space appeared where the spreadsheet was to go.

Is “embed” the code into my post the same thing as copying the code and pasting it into the post–or something different?
