• Hello to everyone – hope your day is groovy so far. I’m a bit confused about firewalls, as in how many one should have on their WordPress set up. I use Dreamhost which provides a free WAF, and I have Cloudflare running as a CDN. Cloudflare also offers a WAF, but I do not have it activated.
In researching which is better of those two, I’ve come across advice saying we should use multiple firewalls (like a WAF and a plugin), and I’ve come across advice saying that one (WAF) is enough and that multiple firewalls often cause problems. I’m trying very hard to avoid redundancies (yet another security recommendation) and was hoping someone in the forums has some sage advice. Thanks for taking the time to help me figure this out.

    None? One?

Having one WAF is enough. You either have confidence in that or you don’t. Adding more than one can cause a conflict and make like for you difficult when you try to get them to play nicely with each other.

I suggest you use the one that your host provided. That’s literally the closest one to your real server and if you need to adjust it that will be easier to do there IMHO.

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. When researching articles it’s hard to judge between genuine advice and advertisements masquerading as advice.
