How many posts can it handle?

  • I am currently running a WordPress MU site with three sites one being a directory. I plan on having over 100,000 directory listings (posts) on the multisite. I have upload somewhere around 8,000 posts when the website slowed way down and couldn’t even load the front page. I tried using wp-cache but didn’t help much.

    I am on shard hostgator hosting and wondering if I need to upgrade to dedicated server for such capacity. Will it help to use wp super chache?

    I have created 5 successful WordPress sites but never anything this large. Does anyone have an suggestions?

    Yes, you do. You’re over-using the resources so your host is likely throttling things automatically.

    The software can handle it. It ‘s the same software they use to run wordpress.COM.

    But they do not use shared hosting. ;P

    Ok great I have recently upgrade to a Basic Linux Dedicated Server, how many posts do you think I can handle with this?

    The number of posts is really irrelevant. How much traffic do you get? How much RAM & CPU do you have? What plugins are you running?

    There is NO definitive answer that says “wordpress can handle X amount of posts on Y kinda of server” None. there’s too many other variables.

    even down to if they are posts & pages and what kind of permalink setting you have.

    Okay do you recommend do a multisite wordpress cache plugin?

    I am currently trying to use quick cache

    Again, it depends on traffic more than anything else.

    WP Super Cache and W3 Total Cache are the two best cache plugins I’ve used, but you MAY NOT need either of them.
