How much bandwidth, how much space?

    I’ve been using blogger for a while now and am just about ready to make the switch to WordPress. I’m in the process of registering a domain name and have a question about hosting packages.

    I’m not sure if I’m ready to start paying for a package yet and have seen a few free ones online. The one that looks most interesting (https://www.host71.com/features.html) offers an ad-free space of 500MB and a monthly bandwidth of 10GB.

    Knowing very little about this I’m wondering if this will be enough space/bandwidth. My blogger blog isn’t too heavily trafficked (no more than 100 hits a day, max) and we always compress photos before posting them.

    I’d love to know thoughts about free v. paid hosting in general and whether the space/bandwidth offered by this company will be enough for my purposes.

    that is more than ample in the bandwidth/space department if you don’t plan to host lots of videos et al.

    You will have to check on ressources however, much more important with php apps.

    When you say resources are you talking about:

    PHP 4.2 or greater
    MySQL 3.23.23 or greater
    The mod_rewrite Apache module

    ?

    I sent an email to the host asking about those, so will see what they reply with.

    resources would be… how much load the blog puts on the server… it would depend upon ur traffic!

    Yep, as sushubh said, plus upon scripts processed by the processor of the server.

    E.g. most hosts outright refuse to allow chat scripts due the fact they need enormous processor ressources.
