What are the statistics of people having their websites hacked using an outdated version of wordpress?

Every time you leave the door unlocked and wide opened using outdated vulnerable software, a WordPress install is compromised and a kitten gets it.

I’ve not read statistics, but if your run a known to be vulnerable outdated version of any server based code on the Internet, you get hacked quickly. See the tim thumb fun for an example.

See the emphasis on vulnerable? Bad People? troll the Internet using search engines to find exploitable installations of anything. Or they just walk address space, but that’s lengthy and easy to get caught.

So if you run exploitable software on your server, the statistics are such that you’ll get compromised sooner than later.
