How Strip Out “Description” in WP RSS?

the part i don’t understand is…

“It allows you to supply your own versions of wp-rss.php, wp-atom.php, etc. in your theme directory.”

ok, so if i read this correctly, i rewrite my wp-rss.php file, upload it to the themes directory and im good to go in that it my blog will now output the rss based on the new theme template?

please lmk as im at a juncture here.
