• I find absolutely no help anywhere on how to get WordPress off my server.

The server advises against just erasing the files…to “do the right thing” in removing it. But how do you do it?

  • That is how you do it. Doesn’t matter if you have shell access or are working via ftp. Delete all WP files and directories. Then using phpMyAdmin delete the database. If for some reason you want to keep the database then simply drop all of the WP tables.

So if you delete all the files, the myadmin will still be somewhere?

    Thanks a lot

So if you delete all the files, the myadmin will still be somewhere?

    what is “myadmin ” ?

    he said, “use phpmyadmin..”

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/phpMyAdmin

    Off that page:

Often host control panels, such as cPanel and Plesk, have phpMyAdmin pre-installed, so there is nothing special you have to do to use it. It is usually linked from the database page. Ask your host if this is available.

    4th link. nothing different.

Hello, if you’re extremeley lost on how to uninstall, please contact me and let me know where are you hosted ( i dont know if were allowed to post host or link here, i am assuming NOT), I can even remove the instalation for you (yes it′s that simple).
Best would be you learn how to do it yourself though.

    Some tips:
Basically, every hosting company has some sort of control panel for your hosting account.
Whatever the hosting you are, they probably have sent you instructions to logging in to this control panel.
Search this email or request them to re-send the info.

With the control panel login info, search for your login username and password and login adress.

After you are logged in to your control panel, search for something like a “File Manager” or “Files”. There you can delete all files of WordPress.
Alternately, you can use FTP, you probably received ftp login instructions as well from your hosting company.

You might need an FTP client, but you can find free FTP Clients on any software download site.

Important: Just be sure that the files you are deleting are really from your wordpress, if you are not sure, you might want to ask for some help on that OK?(some hosting accounts dont put you directly on your www folder, and you might end up deleting some configuration files of yuour account)

After you have deleted the files, you still have to delete the database. Probably a MySQL database, so you need to look again in your control panel and see if you find any MySQL or Database link or icon, by clicking this link you will have some sort of database managment, where you can delete the whole database, or if your host only provides one database, you can just delete all the tables of the database, and thats about it. (be sure that the database you will delete belongs to wordpress, you could be deleting a wrong database)

Just two questions I need to ask, hopefully you will reply them:
    How did you install WordPress?
Why do you want to uninstall it? (problems are always good to know, plus, maybe the reason you want to uninstall it is important for the rest of us).

If you could give us more info on your hosting enviroment (no username or passwords here PLEASE) would be easier to help you out.
    Thank you very much.

After you have deleted the files, you still have to delete the database. Probably a MySQL database,

Since MySQL is the only database currently supported “out of the box” .. Probably?

Respectfully, I will submit that allowing a stranger access to your files via FTP is not only foolhardy but unnecessary. Especially when dealing with someone that has little or no posting history on these forums, as is the case with ricardolopes.

Do not give access to your files or ftp info to strangers if you can help it. Ever.

For the record, I am not new here — I am just away from home so I am using another username. Intuitive moderators have probably already been able to ID me by now, and if they havent yet — it’s a sure thing now.
