How to access other directories on my site

  • Apparently by default WordPress gives a default ‘page not found’ if you try to access something on your site that WordPress thinks you shouldn’t have access to. This is a problem in some ways. I would like to know how to fix this issue:

    I set up a forum on my site and within the folders of the forum there are avatars. Due to this feature of WordPress I am unable to access the avatars for my forum profile. With a regular html site, you would be able to put the path in the browser to actually download the image. With WordPress this is impossible, so the forum software can’t use the image, because WordPress is preventing access to the folder with the avatars.
    How can I resolve this problem?
