How to add a default value?

Is there a way to add a default value?
I have no labels in the form, and us the default values as labels. This is straightforward with all other fields, but not the datepicker one. All I’m after are the words “EVENT DATE” in the entry box, to be replaced with the actual date selected.
How can I achieve this?
