• I am a brand new WordPress user, and I don’t know a whole lot! I have seen a lot of fonts in Google fonts that I really like, and although they give a string of html code, I have no idea where to paste that code into my blog to make the font accessible to me. I downloaded a Google fonts plugin and activated it, but I don’t know how to use it or access it (it’s the first plugin I’ve actually downloaded myself). I’d love some help, because these fonts are boring! Thanks in advance for advice!

  • One easy way is to use a plugin:

    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-google-fonts/

If you’re comfortable editing your theme files, then you’d put the <link> tag into your header.php file (just below the opening <head> tag) and then call the font within your CSS file, following Google Fonts’ example.

Just be careful – if you want to be able to keep your theme up-to-date in the future, don’t edit the files directly, use a child theme.

    Good luck!

I appreciate your reply, but that is totally over my head. I don’t know where the header.php file is. I believe I do have a child theme, but I really don’t know what that is, either. Again, I am brand new to both WordPress and blogging. I did install and activate the plugin, but I don’t know where the fonts can be accessed – are they supposed to just automatically show up when I’m making a new post?

Yes, it looks as though it has some good info. Right at the start, it tells me this: “In your Theme’s style sheet (style.css usually) you can control the font-family”. So I’m already at a disadvantage, because I don’t know what ‘style.css’ is or where to find it. I just need to know if there is a step-by-step ‘instruction for dummies’ on how to install a new font…and I’ve already purchased the ‘WordPress for Dummies’ book, but I haven’t been able to find any cut and dried directions on “here’s how to access the plugin” or “here’s what happens after you activate a plugin” or “here’s exactly how to put a new font in your blog”. I totally don’t mind doing some work to find things out, googling, reading, etc., but so far I can’t find anything elementary enough. With all of the blogs out there with really great fonts, this can’t be too terribly difficult…can it?

There are tons of WP tutorials on the web, including YouTube — Google can help you find them…

Thanks so much! I hadn’t thought about YouTube! I appreciate the help!

Hi there, WPyogi had some great suggestions. I also found this video tutorial on how to set up Google Fonts using the plugin I linked to above – hope it helps.
