The current WP template is not giving me the results I want, resulting in lots of wasted time.

I like to know what is the best way to switch templates i.e. should the ‘parent’ template be reactivated before deleting the ‘child’ template?

Or do I simply activate the template of my choice?

And once a New Template is selected can a backup be done with Child Theme Configerator?

    – keeping in mind that I do not care to maintain the Twenty Fourteen ‘Child Theme’ in the Dashboard > Appearance > Theme section any longer.

    Thanks

For most themes, the template is selected from the Edit Page admin under the “Page Attributes” meta box. From here you can select any of the theme’s available templates.

Some themes let you customize the template that is used for various query types ( blog, search, post, category, tag, etc.). This is usually found under Appearance > Theme Options.

A child theme lets you create an “override” version of the available templates. WordPress automatically uses the child theme version instead of the parent theme version if it exists.

This is why you must have both a child theme and a parent theme in the Appearance > Themes menu. The child theme (when active) is dependent on the Parent theme to function.

If you try to customize the parent theme directly, your changes will be overwritten as soon as you update the parent theme.

    Hope this helps.
