• Hi there,

I’ve been trying to add a sitemap to my blog – the-boating-store-blog.com.

So far I have used a third party to generate one, but their instructions to allow them to upload it are beyond my present tech ability.

    The sitemap is in xml.

Can anyone direct me on how to get it onto my site – google says place it in the root location of my site. The host people I use won’t help me find the precise root location. (I can find the root directory. There are 2 sites in it. Do I just open the blog folder and drag the sitemap file across to drop it into the opened folder? Or do I drop it into one of it’s sub folders like wp-content?

    Any help would be welcomed.

    With thanks

this plugin will make, and keep up to date, your xml sitemap automatically. And put it in the right place

You root directory is usually called html, or public_html

In a shared hosting environment its the lowest directory you can get to

All your folders and files are in it

Making your own sitemap and uploading it aren’t a great idea on WP, as it doesn’t stay up to date. You’d have to make a new one each time you post. The plugins available do it without effort

So amazingly easy! Thank you. It’s downloaded and running.

And thank you for the information about the root directory and updating the sitemap.
