How to add a 'space' between 2 variables?

I have two variables set up and would like to combine them as a links title text. The only problem is that when i do title=”<?php echo $catname.$name ?>” where $catname is ‘nike’ for example and $name is ‘golf’, i get nikegolf, instead of nike golf. What do i need to change in order to get it to display correctly? Thanks.
